Kieran Tierney open to Newcastle transfer amid Arsenal struggle

Kieran Tierney is tempted by a move to Newcastle this summer if he continues to struggle for game-time at Arsenal.

The left-back has fallen behind Oleksandr Zinchenko in the pecking order at Emirates Stadium and has started just four Premier League games this season.

Newcastle have been alerted to his situation and it is understood Tierney would consider an offer from the Magpies if they were to firm up their interest.

Arsenal are in a strong position with the Scot, though, as he still has three years left to run on his contract.

The Gunners have not yet decided if they would sanction the departure of Tierney, but if he leaves they would want more than the £25million they paid to sign him from Celtic in 2019.

Leicester were interested in signing the 25-year-old in January as Brendan Rodgers is a big admirer of Tierney after working with him at Celtic.

But Arsenal ruled out a mid-season exit for the left-back and he was also happy to stay to help the team fight to win the Premier League.

Leicester instead swooped to sign Victor Kristiansen from FC Copenhagen for £17m.

Tierney was a regular when Mikel Arteta was hired by Arsenal in December 2019, but he has suffered from a change in system this season.

Zinchenko has operated as the Gunners’ left-back, though he essentially plays in midfield. Tierney suits playing as a more conventional left-back, which is what Newcastle want.
