Kieran Dowell next on Rangers transfer hitlist amid Greek scouting mission and Butland deal as Ibrox revamp is ON

Rangers are targeting Norwich City midfield star Kieran Dowell as Michael Beale ramps up his summer recruitment drive, according to a report.

The Ibrox boss revealed he held face-to-face talks with potential signings in recent weeks and Dowell is free to speak with other clubs as the 25-year-old’s contract at Carrow Road expires in June. And the Scottish Daily Mail report Dowell “has emerged as a summer transfer target for Rangers".

Dowell is an attacking midfielder who came through the youth ranks at Everton and spent six years at Goodison Park but he made only a couple of top team appearances and during his spell at the Toffees had loan spells at Nottingham Forest, Sheffield United, Derby County and Wigan Athletic.

He moved to Norwich City three years ago, where he was a team-mate of Todd Cantwell, and has played a pivotal part under Canaries gaffer David Wagner, making 26 appearances for the Championship side this season before he suffered a knee ligament injury in February, although he does hope to be back in action before the end of the season. Dowell was capped 17 times for the England Under-21 team and was previously linked with a move to Ibrox when Beale was coach alongside Steven Gerrard.

Dowell’s link comes as it emerged Jack Butland is being targeted as a replacement for Allan McGregor while another name ahead of what is sure to be a busy summer is Greek right back Giannis Kotsiras, currently playing with Panathinaikos.

The 30-year-old has been capped twice for the Greece national team and, according to Glasgow World, will be scouted by Rangers coach Harry Watling in the coming weeks. His contract in Athens runs until 2024.
