Graham Alexander says Kevin Van Veen will be given every chance to make Sunday's Ibrox showdown with Rangers and revealed the Dutch striker has received a pain-killing injection.
Van Veen suffered a shoulder injury during Motherwell's 1-1 draw with Aberdeen last weekend, but insisted on staying on the pitch and still had a hand in Mark O'Hara's leveller for the Steelmen.
He has undergone a scan, which revealed no lasting damage, but an injection will help him get over the pain.
Alexander says it's a case of leaving the 30-year-old former Scunthorpe hitman to see how he reacts to the injury and the treatment, and they'll see how he goes ahead of the trip to Glasgow.
The Motherwell boss said: "Kevin has had a scan and there's no major damage, but he's had an injection in it just to settle it down, because it's quite painful for him.
"It's a case of, two days after the injection, doing nothing to antagonise it and see how he is after that.
"This will be the second day, so he'll miss training today and we'll see how he is."
Van Veen hit a post and his shot led to O'Hara netting the rebound to rescue a point against the Dons.
Alexander said: "It was brilliant from Kev, he's a really good player for us as everyone knows. He did take a painful one, and I saw the incident. It didn't look too bad, but obviously he was in a bit of pain so there is something in there.
"I asked him at half-time if he was fit, yes or no - he said yes, and that was it. We asked him to be honest with us if he couldn't contribute to the team, and we've got good players in the squad who can come on, but he didn't want to come off.
"I kept a close eye on him and he was still a thorn in the side for Aberdeen.
"I thought their players, certainly their centre-halves, were very wary of him. I thought it created space for other players and he obviously had a part to play in the goal as well, so fair play to him.
"That's the sort of commitment we need from all of our players to win games."
