Kevin Bridges responds to cruel jibes about his dad's death as he pays tribute

Kevin Bridges hit back at cruel trolls mocking his father's death in the early hours of Monday morning.

The Scottish comedian, 36, took to Twitter to pay tribute to his late father and reply to insensitive commentators directly tweeting him about his recent family tragedy.

A spokesperson for Kevin confirmed on Saturday night that the comic's dad Andy Bridges sadly passed away at the age of 75 on Thursday. He was surrounded by his wife Patricia and the rest of his loving family.

As the news of Andy's death broke on social media over the weekend, some Twitter users mused how Kevin made jokes relating to the late Queen during a comedy performance shortly after the late Head of State's death in September last year.

"Will he joke about this like he did when our queen died," one Twitter user wrote online in response to a news article reporting Kevin's dad's death at the time.

Quote-tweeting the critic on Monday morning, Kevin replied: "Of course I will joke about it… do you know where I can get a good suit for the funeral mate??"

The comedian then replied to another troll's tweet, in which the Twitter user made several bad-taste comments about Andy's death, but the star quickly deleted his response to the cruel tweet.

Kevin went on to tell his Twitter followers: "Having a laugh with the clowns there but god bless you all and thanks for the lovely messages, from me and the family.

"We see things they’ll never see."

Kevin divided angered some fans of the Royal Family last year, thanks to the comic's decision to go ahead with his prearranged gig at the Hydro in Glasgow on the evening the Queen's death was announced.

He told the audience: "Good evening on this historic evening. This is the 40th time that I have performed at this venue so I'm sure you'll read about it in all the papers in the morning, on the front page of the Daily Telegraph."

Laughing, Kevin then added: "Anyway welcome to the only f*cking show in Britain going ahead this evening."

The crowd responded with cheering and applause as the star added: "The doors were at 6.30pm and she hung on - it's what she would have wanted, so welcome."

He then laughed before joking: "I'm doing it for Lizzie and I've worn a black suit as a tribute.

"Probably the last show before we back into lockdown."

Some felt the professional comedian making jokes about the death of the Queen so soon was in poor taste, while others defended the star's right to free speech and pointed out how his audience who bought tickets to see him will have appreciated his humour.

Kevin's spokesperson confirmed the death of the star's father on Saturday night.

Andy was extremely supportive of his son's career and even drove him to The Stand Comedy Club in Glasgow for his first open mic spot when he was 17 years old.

He became Kevin's mentor in comedy over the years and is thought to have been 'the biggest influence' on his son's career and often featured in his stand up routines.
