Kevin Bridges has announced the death of his dad Andy Bridges at the age of 75.
A spokesperson for the 36-year-old comedian confirmed that Andy sadly died on Thursday. He was surrounded by his wife Patricia and the rest of his loving family.
His cause of death is yet to be revealed, but a family friend said that Andy has been battling poor health in recent months.
Kevin's dad was extremely supportive of his son's career and even drove him to The Stand Comedy Club in Glasgow for his first open mic spot when he was 17 years old.
Since then, Andy has been Kevin's mentor in comedy and is thought to have been 'the biggest influence' on his son's career and often featured in his stand up routines.
The comic had the Graham Norton show audience in tears of laughter with a hilarious story about Andy missing the Orient Express.
"My dad's always had a thing for trains and always wanted to go on the Orient Express. So for their anniversary I got them the trip and my dad is the only guy to have missed the train," he said.
Kevin continued: "He got off at Innsbruck station to send me a text and he was used to me telling him the signal is bad on trains so he presumed you can’t send a text from a train.
"So he gets off before the train is due to depart and sends me this long text about how they had been wined and dined and he was gazing at the Tyrolean mountains - he had even done the spell-check.
"And I’m reading this text and filling up because they’ve really had a good time and then the text goes 's***e, the train has just left, can you call me son?"
Luckily, Andy managed to hop in a taxi and catch up with the train at the next stop.
When he got back on board, he was given a standing ovation by the other passengers.
Kevin previously revealed how he was "dead proud" of his dad for overcoming depression through performing poems he had written.
Andy had been forced to give up work as a result of rheumatoid arthritis which led to his mental health problems.
"I remember seeing how much he struggled. But he started going to a creative writing class with other guys who were on incapacity benefits.
"I remember going to a showcase of the work they had and my dad recited some of his poems. I was only 10 or 11 but I was dead proud of him," Kevin told the Daily Record last year.
"Patricia, who was his wife for 47 years, was by his side along with his sons John and Kevin as well as Kevin’s wife and his grandson Liam," a family friend has said when discussing Andy's death.
"Andy was Kevin’s mentor and took him to his first ever gig when he was a teenager. He was still bouncing new material off him in recent weeks.
"Andy was absolutely hilarious and that’s where Kevin got his comedy skills from," the source added when speaking with The Sun.
