The iconic Karate Kid franchise is set to make a comeback, introducing a new generation to the beloved martial arts series. Following the success of the original ‘80s films and the 2010 remake, Sony Pictures has announced a reboot with a brand-new film.
The project was officially unveiled in September 2022, and a year later, it was confirmed that Ralph Macchio and Jackie Chan would be reprising their roles as Daniel LaRusso and Mr. Han, respectively. The duo expressed their excitement about finding the next Karate Kid through a global search led by Sony.
While plot details remain a mystery, the film is expected to be set in the same universe as the original Karate Kid movies and the 2010 reboot starring Jaden Smith. The star-studded cast includes not only Macchio and Chan but also Joshua Jackson, Sadie Stanley, and Ming-Na Wen.
Jonathan Entwistle, known for his work on Netflix’s The End of the F***ing World, will be directing the film. The screenplay will be penned by Rob Lieber, with Karen Rosenfelt on board as the producer.
According to reports from The Hollywood Reporter, Sony aims to commence production in the spring of 2024. Fans can mark their calendars as the film is scheduled to hit theaters on December 13, 2024, promising an exciting return to the world of Karate Kid.
