Kanye West’s bid to become President of the United States of America in the upcoming 2024 election is set to be the focus of a new two-part BBC documentary.
Due to air later this year under the working title We Need To Talk About Kanye, it will follow the rapper and father-of-four’s decision to run for office at a time when his behaviour sparked outrage among the public.
The film will be fronted by investigative journalist Mobeen Azhar, who will look to uncover how West – who legally changed his name to “Ye” in 2021 – became the most famous and creatively successful artists of his generation, while also facing condemnation and notoriety.
Mobeen recently worked on the critically acclaimed film The Battle for Britney, which came after pop star’s Britney Spears’ conservatorship battle.
We Need To Talk About Kanye is due to air later this year on BBC Two, with West’s complicated mind further explored in an eight-part podcast series, according to its producer Jeremy Lee.
Speaking to Variety, Lee teased that the documentary will give viewers “unique access to members of Ye’s inner circle” but that notorious control freak West will have “no editorial control” over the final product.
Going on to explain the driving force behind the project, he said: “Ye’s recent behavior has prompted both condemnation and a re-evaluation of his place in popular culture.
“With recent events as a starting point, the documentary and accompanying eight-part podcast series explore Ye’s two decades in the public eye amid a rumoured YE2024 election campaign,” Lee said.
“It will be underpinned with world-class journalism and unique access to members of Ye’s inner circle, this is a revelation-driven film which sheds new light on recent events.
Adding: “Ye is aware of but has no editorial control over the documentary.”
