Kamala Harris Addresses Israel-Hamas Conflict With Forceful Speech

U.S. Vice President Harris delivers remarks on the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas, in Dubai

The ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict has become a significant foreign policy concern for the United States, sparking widespread protests across the nation since its inception in October.

Following a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Vice President Kamala Harris delivered a powerful speech addressing the situation in Gaza. Harris expressed a firm stance on the issue, stating that the tragedies unfolding in the region cannot be ignored, and she vowed not to remain silent.

While reiterating President Biden's unwavering support for Israel's right to self-defense, Harris emphasized the importance of the manner in which this defense is carried out. She displayed a heightened level of empathy towards the suffering of Palestinians, expressing serious concerns about civilian casualties, the dire humanitarian conditions, and the widespread devastation in Gaza.

Harris particularly highlighted the plight of innocent civilians, including children and hungry individuals fleeing for safety, some repeatedly displaced due to the conflict.

Furthermore, the Vice President emphasized the urgency of securing the release of Israeli hostages held by Hamas. However, in discussing the potential ceasefire agreement under negotiation, Harris focused on the Israeli military's phased withdrawal from populated areas as a crucial step towards achieving a lasting peace.

Notably, Harris opted to forego attending Netanyahu's address to Congress in favor of honoring a prior commitment to a sorority event in Indiana.
