Jota admits Celtic suffered from squandered chances in Shakhtar stalemate but makes 'higher places' prediction

Jota admits Celtic can't be happy with only gaining a point from their Champions League clash with Shakhtar Donetsk because the bar has been set to be aiming for victory every week.

The dynamic winger showed spells of some scintillating football during the 1-1 draw with the Ukrainian Premier League side. But for all his tricks and clever runs, he couldn't find the final finish to secure all three points for his side. Celtic took the lead early on thanks to a deflected Reo Hatate effort before a blistering run and finish from Mykhaylo Mudryk levelled the tie before the break.

Asked if he is happy with the result he said: “Of course not. As Celtic players we always aim for victory and today we really wanted to get the victory. Unlucky we didn’t get it but we have to keep on working and there’s plenty of matches to play."

The Hoops spurred several chances to take the victory with Giorgos Giakoumakis, Daizen Maeda and Matt O'Riley all lamenting opportunities. And Jota reckons you can't be so wasteful when dining at Europe's top table.

He added: “We keep on having some good chances but we don’t finish them and at this level, Champions League level, if you don’t make it you’ll suffer for sure. But we will learn from this and there’s a belief in this group that we can go to higher places. In football we know that things can change in a minute so we have to believe in ourselves, keep on working and that’s what we are going to do.”
