Josh Taylor shoots down Jack Catterall over Glasgow title vow as he warns his belts are 'going nowhere'

The war of words between Josh Taylor and Jack Catterall has been ramped up with the English challenger boasting about making a cross-border raid to take his titles down south.

Scotland ’s undisputed world light-welterweight champion will fight his undefeated challenger at Glasgow ’s Hydro Arena on Saturday.

Last week the Prestonpans boxer slapped Catterall down, branding him “a clown” after the Englishman complained about Taylor postponing their clash – originally scheduled for December 19 – due to a knee injury he sustained during training.

And on Wednesday Catterall said: “To win this fight will mean the world to me and to come to Scotland and do it in front of Josh’s own fans I think adds energy to the fight.

“I’m just excited to get up there and take all these belts back down to England. Josh has seen all the styles there are, but he’s never fought Jack Catterall.”

Despite the verbals, Taylor insists he won’t be goaded into going gung ho on Saturday.

He said: “Jack’s a low-key kind of character. I know everyone says I always get fired up before a bout but not all my fights have been like that.

“It depends on the way the opponent is acting towards you but I’m not bothered.

“My belts are going nowhere. I’ve brought them to Scotland and that’s where they’ll be staying.”
