Josh McPake has returned to Rangers and now faces an uncertain future over the final year of his Ibrox contract.
The attacker spent the season on-loan at Queen’s Park. His spell with the Spiders started well but he fell down the pecking orders in the final months, as they pushed to try and win promotion to the Premiership.
Queen’s had held initial talks with Rangers about doing a permanent deal in January but have now pulled the plug on that, even before the shock decision of head coach Owen Coyle to step down earlier today. McPake only played 292 minutes in his last 14 games for the Spiders as they just missed out on the title and then fell short in the play-offs, with Aaron Healy, Patrick Jarrett and Louis Longridge all pushing in front of him.
There were also reports of disciplinary issues in his time with Queen's. Rangers are now likely to look at options for McPake to relaunch his career elsewhere. McPake has had a number of loans at Dundee, Morton, Morecambe and Harrogate Town.
