JON MCLAUGHLIN insists he has been given no indication that he will be Rangers number one this term as boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst prepares to make a key Ibrox call.
Rangers begin their campaign against Livingston on Saturday afternoon as they kick-off a crucial run of Premiership, Champions League and Premier Sports Cup fixtures that will shape their early season aspirations.
Van Bronckhorst has yet to publicly state who will start the season between the sticks as McLaughlin seeks to replace Allan McGregor as the first name on the team sheet despite the 40-year-old's decision to play on for another term.
McLaughlin has been a steady performer throughout his Ibrox career and time will tell whether he has the backing off his boss to become the Light Blues custodian during their bids for success at home and abroad in the coming months.
"No, no," McLaughlin said when asked if there had been any indication of the opportunities that he could get this season. "There has been no conversation so, again, Allan has signed back on and there is myself, Allan and Robby (McCrorie) as there was last season.
"We haven’t had any conversation with the boss or with Colin or between ourselves. At the end of the day, as always, the boss is free to choose whoever he wants to choose on any given day to represent Rangers.
"Whoever he feels is best in that position at that time to play, I am sure that is who he will go with. It is making sure you put yourself in the best light you can and see where that leaves you.
"We get on really well as a group. Since I came to the club that has been the case and we have got a really close knit unit.
"Kieran Wright as well, Andy Firth, who has moved on now, was a great goalkeeper and great guy to have in the group.
"With Colin (Stewart) the goalie coach, we have got a great group of guys that work really hard and push each other.
"Of course when you are training with quality goalkeepers it brings the best out of you and you need to work hard to match that level."
