Johan Manzambi scored the only goal of the game as Aston Villa secured a 1-0 victory over Newcastle United at St James’ Park.
The 36th-minute header was Manzambi’s second Premier League goal of the season, coming against a Newcastle side he almost joined during the summer.
Both teams created chances in a feisty encounter, with Newcastle's Sven Botman surviving a VAR check for a potential red card and Emiliano Buendia hitting the post for Villa.
Newcastle pressed for a second-half equaliser through Yoane Wissa and Will Osula, but the visitors held on to claim all three points.
The result lifts Aston Villa to 12th in the Premier League table, while Newcastle slip to back-to-back league defeats.
