Joe Lewis net worth rockets amid Tottenham takeover talk and Man United prediction

Change could be afoot at Tottenham Hotspur as takeover talk continues to swirl around the north London club.

It was reported in February that MSP Sports Capital were preparing a bid for Spurs worth around £3 billion with the group's chairman, Jahm Najafi, said to be behind a move. There were also claims earlier this year that Spurs chairman Daniel Levy had met with the president of Qatar Sports Investments - the owners of Paris Saint-Germain - Nasser Al-Khelaifi in January.

And only this week a prediction was made that prospective Manchester United buyer Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad al-Thani could turn his attention to Spurs if his attempts to take over at Old Trafford prove fruitless. Should the ownership of Spurs change hands, then owners ENIC Group through the ENIC International Limited subsidiary stand to make a considerable amount having owned the club since 2001.

With Joe Lewis and Daniel Levy overseeing the move into a new stadium and establishing the club as a part of the Premier League's so-called 'Big Six', the club's value has shot up over time. Lewis and Levy could add to their considerable worth by parting with their respective interest in Spurs.

ENIC International Limited owns 85 per cent of Spurs, with Levy owning 29.4 per cent of the company and Lewis the rest. The Sunday Times Rich List, released on Friday, puts Levy's net worth at around £500 million because of his stake in Spurs and Lewis' at £5.1bn, a rise of a whopping £800m on last year.

Spurs' owners could be ready for an offer if Sheikh Jassim decides against continuing in his efforts to buy United. ESPN journalist Mark Ogden said he heard that Tottenham could be an option for the Qatari businessman.

"Somebody told me recently, they said that if the Qataris don't buy Manchester United, they'll be back and they might end up buying Tottenham," Ogden said on The United Stand. "He said, look, if you've got Manchester City owned by Abu Dhabi, you've got Newcastle owned by Saudi Arabia, if Qataris maybe buy Tottenham, then you've got three clubs who can pull away."
