A team of Italian archaeologists has uncovered a remarkable ancient landscape beneath Jerusalem's Church of the Holy Sepulchre, renewing one of Christianity's oldest archaeological mysteries: where was Jesus Christ buried?
Researchers from Rome's Sapienza University found evidence of a first-century quarry, agricultural activity and funerary use beneath the church, details that closely correspond with the Gospel of John's description of Jesus being buried in a new tomb in a garden near the place of crucifixion.
