Jesus Christ Deliberately Made His Commands 'Devastating' and Impossible To Follow, Pastor Claims

Pastor Andrew Farley argues that Jesus Christ’s commands in the Sermon on the Mount were intended to expose the limits of human efforts to be perfect (Credit: Andrew Farley/Facebook)

Texan pastor and evangelical broadcaster Andrew Farley has reignited centuries of theological controversy by arguing that Jesus Christ intentionally issued ethical commands that no human being could ever achieve during the famous Sermon on the Mount.

In his upcoming book, The Impossible Teachings of Jesus: You Can't Obey the Sermon on the Mount, and That's Good News, scheduled for nationwide release on 10 November 2026, the Dallas-area church leader challenges traditional pulpit orthodoxy by asserting that Christ's call for absolute moral perfection was intended to devastate human self-righteousness rather than supply a checklist for virtuous living.
