Donna Tierney has been flooded with messages of support after she claimed that her marriage with Jermain Defoe ended because he cheated on her. Defoe and the Glasgow beautician first met in January 2021 at a charity do, when the England international was playing for Rangers.
Just seven months later he proposed at a £2,500-a-night Glasgow hotel. Donna, 40, wed the footie ace, 39, in a lavish £200k ceremony in June 2022 after just one year of dating.
But their romance was dogged by claims of an affair just one month after they tied the knot. And their marriage has now come to an end, with Donna claiming on Instagram that she had been "disrespected on so many levels".
In a statement, she wrote: "Truth be told it’s been the hardest time of my life, my heart was broken which was extremely difficult for me to deal with without having something that is so pure and real to me publicly devalued and disrespected on so many levels, which inevitably broke me.
"My love for Jermain, our vows and our marriage was 100 per cent real to both of us. I was a devoted wife, but it takes two people to make a marriage work, no less, no more and his infidelity eventually broke our marriage."
Referring to another woman she added: "The truth is she wasn't dating, she was having an affair with a married man, my husband. My heart will forever remain pure. Jermain's had an exceptional playing career, and I pray he gets the career he deserves in the next chapter of his life."
Donna's followers and fans were quick to respond, with one saying: "Hope your okay angel and you are better than that," complete with three red love heart emojis.
Another commented: "The purest heart and most incredible woman we all love you so much Donna your family will forever have your back and be there to appreciate and give back the incredible love you so effortlessly give nothing and no one will ever compromise that.
A third replied: "You have chosen a dignified silence during a very public breakup, which, in itself speaks volumes and says an awful lot about you as a person. Saying ‘nothing’ is way more powerful than splurting your personal business and feelings all over socials. Whatever lies ahead for you both you’ll both know what’s right x"
While a fourth wrote: "Everything happens for a reason you got this." A fifth penned: "I’m so sorry, beautiful. You pure hearted soul. I wish nothing but happiness this year for you and your girl."
Weeks after the couple's wedding ceremony, an unnamed nurse claimed Defoe had begged her for sex. The duo last shared pictures together on social media in October last year and Tierney returned to using her maiden name online amid a rumoured split.
Defoe has recently been spotted with his rumoured new girlfriend, influencer Alisha Lemay, 31. The Daily Record contacted Defoe's agent for comment.
