Jennifer Lopez says taking Ben Affleck's name is a 'power move' as she slams critics

Jennifer Lopez has said that taking Ben Affleck's last name is a 'power move' as she slams critics.

The star opened up about the choice to change her last name, despite still being known as Lopez in the celebrity world.

The pair tied the knot earlier this year after previously being engaged in the early 2000s but never getting to walking down the aisle.

They were set to get married back in 2004 but ended up splitting before going on to have other marriages and children.

However, they managed to reconnect almost two decades later and went on to have two large wedding ceremonies.

Speaking to Vogue, Jennifer said that she saw it as a 'power move' having the same last name as her husband.

She acknowledged the fact that she would still be called by the name Jennifer Lopez, and she said: "People are still going to call me Jennifer Lopez. But my legal name will be Mrs. Affleck because we’re joined together.

"We’re husband and wife. I’m proud of that. I don’t think that’s a problem. … It’s not traditional. It doesn’t have any romance to it. It feels like it’s a power move, you know what I mean?"

Jennifer went on to say that she understand why people would criticise her choice but she thinks it is 'romantic' to take her partner's name.

She said: "I’m very much in control of my own life and destiny and feel empowered as a woman and as a person. I can understand that people have their feelings about it, and that’s okay, too. But if you want to know how I feel about it, I just feel like it’s romantic. It still carries tradition and romance to me, and maybe I’m just that kind of girl."

Jennifer and Ben recently revealed that their combined five children played a special role in their wedding.

JLo wrote in her newsletter: "We weren’t only marrying one another; we were marrying these children into a new family. They were the only people we asked to stand up for us in our wedding party. To our great honour and joy, each one did."

Jennifer said that 'nothing ever felt more right to me' when she talked about tying the knot with her now-husband.

She continued: "I knew we were finally 'settling down' in a way you can only do when you understand loss and joy and you are battle tested enough to never take the important things for granted.

"Years ago, we had no idea the road ahead would mean navigating so many labyrinths and hold so many surprises, blessings, and delights. It all culminated in this moment, one of the most perfect of our lives. We couldn’t have been happier."
