Jeep has issued a global recall for over 194,000 plug-in hybrid SUVs due to a potential fire risk even when the ignition is turned off. The affected models include the Wrangler four by e from 2020 to 2024 and the Grand Cherokee four by e from 2022 to 2024, with the majority of the recalled vehicles located in North America.
As a precautionary measure, Jeep is advising owners not to charge the SUVs and to park them outdoors away from structures until the necessary repairs are completed. Stellantis, the manufacturer of Jeeps, has stated that a solution is in progress, and affected customers will be notified when they can schedule service. The company has also highlighted that the risk of fire is minimized when the battery charge is depleted.
The recall was initiated following a routine review of customer data, which revealed 13 incidents of fires resulting in two injuries. Stellantis estimates that approximately 5% of the SUVs are affected by this issue.
