James McFadden and Kenny Miller optimistic for Scotland's future with 'in it to win it' quip

James McFadden and Kenny Miller are optimistic about the future for Scotland and both hope the national team can qualify without the play-off for the Euros finals.

Steve Clarke's men secured top spot and promotion to League A in the Nations League after a share of the spoils with Ukraine to top off a stunning week for the national team. Two Hampden wins over last night's opponents and the Republic of Ireland set up the chance of winning the section by avoiding defeat in Poland and they did just that.

It means Scotland will be mixing it with the big boys when the Nations League comes back around and with that they've also secured a play-off spot for Euro 2024 and a pot 2 seed for the upcoming qualifying draw for the finals. Former Scotland pair McFadden and Miller both have eyes on qualification as they hailed the current crop after another successful night on the pitch.

Asked where Clarke and Co can go from here, McFadden told Premier Sports: "We are in it to win it.

"Listen, I am the most positive guy ever when it comes to Scotland.

"With this squad, the fact it is a good age and mix of experience and youth and the fact they have come through that adversity. I would love to see us just qualify straight out and not have to worry about this play-off.

"Then have a right good go at the Nations League Group A."

Miller added: "We've given ourselves a fantastic opportunity to go into the next qualifying campaign in pot 2.

"The aim is qualification. How you get there, it doesn't really matter.

"But you would much rather not have to go through the nerve-shredding play-off we went through for Euro 2020. They've got a fantastic chance now.

"All the work and rewards they've got from winning this group. They've got a real chance now going into the next campaign."
