James Carter Cathcart, the beloved voice behind some of Pokémon's most recognisable English-language characters, died on 10 July at the age of 71. He passed away at home in upstate New York, surrounded by family, following a long battle with throat cancer.
Cathcart stepped away from the Pokémon franchise in 2023 after his diagnosis. He had voiced Team Rocket's James, Meowth, and Professor Oak for more than two decades, becoming an essential part of the show's enduring appeal. His performances helped define the series for English-speaking audiences around the world.
