Navalny, a fierce critic of Russian President Vladimir Putin, is currently serving a 19-year sentence on charges of extremism, which he vehemently denies. The United States government has labeled these charges as baseless. His lawyer visited him recently and reported that he was in relatively good spirits, considering the physically challenging transfer he endured.
