It was spring 2025 and, in Damon Albarn’s 13 Studios in Notting Hill, Jack Savoretti was hard at it: attempting to record the bulk of a full album in one week. On the docket that particular day: Do it for Love, a collaboration with Miles Kane, the solo artist and occasional wingman of Arctic Monkeys’ Alex Turner. “It’s Morricone vibes!” the absent Liverpudlian singer-songwriter said, referencing the legendary Italian composer, on a singsong Scouse voice note he’d sent to Savoretti. “We should keep that in the song!” joked Savoretti to his bandmates gathered on the other side of the control room glass.
“Miles is a good everything,” the Anglo-Italian replies when I later ask him what makes Kane a good collaborator. “Whether you’re writing poetry or drinking champagne, Miles is who you want in the room. With his approach to music, he lives it. He’s the real deal. You can hear it so much in that song. That’s one of the things me and him have in common: we both do what we do for love. There’s no other reason. Unfortunately! Whether we like it or not, we’re addicted to this.”
