ITV Dancing On Ice flooded with complaints over major change viewers branded 'shambles' and make demand

Dancing On Ice's first show has been flooded with complaints after it made a major change.

Fans of the ITV skating competition tuned in on Sunday night for the first episode of the 2022 series.

The first six stars - including Corrie's Sally Dynevor and Happy Mondays' Bez - took to the ice for their debut performances in front of a live audience and the judges.

Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield were also back rink side as the hosts of the programme dubbed "greatest show on ice".

The first set of skates saw Brendan Cole and Kimberly Wyatt topping the Dancing On Ice leaderboard while Happy Mondays dancer Bez finished at the bottom after descending to the rink on giant maracas and dancing with watermelons.

The results came after the expert judging panel of former Olympic ice dancing champions Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean, alongside Diversity choreographer Ashley Banjo and professional dancer Oti Mabuse, who is the newest addition to the show, cast their eyes over the routines.

After all the celebrities had performed, it was revealed that broadcaster Ria Hebden will be returning next week to battle it out in the skate-off.

But Dancing On Ice viewers have taken to social media with complaints after the show made a change to how they can vote.

"Glad to see it back but new voting which is a shambles results in wrong person being in dance off. Couldn't access the QR code, nightmare," @xkarnixx said.

It was the debut episode of the series (ITV)

@amy_g_surrey wrote: "Wrong person voted off. I couldn't vot because the app isn't working. Why have you not done it via app? QR code NOT left on screen long enough. Pls remember people with disabilities!!"

"Loaded the app on my iPad to vote as the lines opened to see it’s not been updated for 2022. Tried to register my mobile on @ITV website but STILL waiting for the SMS to come through at 8pm so obviously that’s my votes not cast. #dancingonice," @Myristica tweeted.

@debbiorchid shared: "@ITV @dancingonice Why drop the #doi app for voting? Pretty bonkers when apps clearly work for I’m a celeb, etc. I’m an avid watcher of #DancingOnIce but the voting via the website is somewhat unnecessarily complex! #didntbother."

"@dancingonice Big mistake getting rid of the app for voting! You’ve lost loads of us tonight who’ve been voting for years. Why stop something that works?? #DancingOnIce #bringbacktheapp," @debbiorchid echoed.

@vanessajane3 added: "@dancingonice @itv Please bring back the app, easier for voting, can watch back the dances and not last year but the one before, we could play along with judges and rate performances/skating/outfits/music, was SO much better and more immersive and interactive."

Ria ended up in the skate-off (ITV)

An ITV spokesman told the Manchester Evening News: "ITV has launched its new online vote platform for the brand new series of Dancing On Ice, meaning viewers can now vote for contestants on their favourite shows via itv.com/vote or stv.tv/vote.

"The new platform does not require an app for viewers to vote for free, but asks them to register on their phones via itv.com/vote or via a QR code promoted in the show - the first time this has been done on British TV for a live vote."

Ria, who is a regular presenter of the entertainment slot on ITV’s Lorraine, skated to Harry Styles’ Treat People With Kindness scoring 24.5.

The 39-year-old said she was "gutted" after it was revealed she will have to perform in the skate-off next week.

The remaining six celebrities will take to the ice on Sunday (January 23) with the dance-off taking place once all the stars have performed.
