Coronation Street fans were left terrified when soap villain Geoff Metcalfe made a shock return in Wednesday night's episode (August 24). The abusive husband of Yasmeen Nazir, played by Ian Bartholomew, popped up unexpectedly in creepy scenes just seconds in.
Corrie viewers saw Yasmeen, played by Shelley King, stirred from her sleep on the sofa by the sound of Stu Carpenter whistling cheerfully in the kitchen while making them a brew. Soap watchers are aware that Yasmeen had given her close friend his marching orders after finding out he served 27 years in prison for the murder of a young woman he had an affair with.
Deeply affected by the psychological torture inflicted on her by her late husband, Yasmeen has refused to listen to Stu's protests that he was wrongly convicted. And on Wednesday night, as the character became increasingly annoyed with her, he bore down on Yasmeen and yelled: "Would you like some chicken?" referring to the stomach-churning scenes when Geoff cooked and made his wife eat her beloved pet hen.

Then came another jolt for viewers as Stu appeared to transform into sinister Geoff who reprised his mocking of Yasmeen. As the restaurant owner was woken by her grandson Zeedan, it turned out she was just having a chilling nightmare but fans were scared.
@GregDav94758992 screamed "Geoff" with a terrified face on Twitter. @mishybabez_ tweeted: "Okay Yasmeen's dream of Geoff scared me." And @Clawmaw wrote with shocked-face emojis: "Jiggle it Geoff just made a special appearance!"
@capsule_toy clearly enjoyed the shock factor, saying: "Waaaaaaaaaayyyyyy!!!! Welcome back @IanBartholome13 to Corrie. What a nice surprise!" @meenasandhu22 wrote: "Corrie kept that quiet." And @WilliamWillh exclaimed: "Good to see Geoff back!"
But @landd96498356 said with a sad face: "Domestic abuse scars badly." @BnmPlanet sympathised: "OH no nightmare for Jasmin. Give her a break." And @ko0bf4c3 said: "Oh no dont inflict Jiggle it Geoff on us."
In another disturbing scene last year vile Geoff, who died in December 2020, returned to haunt his wife who can't shake visions of him in her head. As a stressed Yasmeen had a meeting with her bank manager with granddaughter Alya, he suddenly transformed into her abusive late husband with a 'Geoff' name badge and Yasmeen imagined that she was seeing Geoff having a go at her about her debts.
After being cleared of attempted murder in one of the most dramatic Corrie storylines of the year, Yasmeen was chased onto the roof of her house by Geoff during the soap's 60th anniversary week. She faced prison after Geoff tortured and tormented her until she struck her abuser with a wine bottle.
But the bully plummeted to his death following a terrifying stand-off after she was released from prison. Magician Geoff, nicknamed 'Jiggle it Geoff' following a trick that went wrong when Yasmeen got stuck in his magic box, was part of a harrowing coercive control storyline that saw him plant CCTV cameras in their home.
He was seeing escorts behind her back and when he gave her a sexually transmitted infection he accused her of passing it to him. Then he forced her to wear a racy dress meant for one of his escorts to meet family in the pub.
When they returned home he mocked her and threw her food on the floor until she finally snapped and lashed out with the bottle. But it seems Yasmeen, after confiding in her friend Roy Cropper. is now able to move forward from her ordeal.
In moving scenes in Victoria Garden, she told Stu that she does believe he’s innocent. And when he returned to the street to be met with hostility from neighbours she came to his rescue, declaring that he's nothing like Geoff and telling him that he’s moving back in with her at number 6.
