ITV Corrie fans distracted by mystery over Steve McDonald's change in appearance as he sports a new look

Coronation Street fans said they were confused as soap legend Steve McDonald appeared with a new look in Monday night's episode (April 24). Steve, played by Simon Gregson, was seen in the living room of 1 Coronaton Street as he sat back with his wife Tracy, played by Kate Ford.

Steve and Tracy chatted with daughter Amy as she got ready for pal Nina Lucas' birthday party, telling her it was ages since they had seen her "glammed up." In a heart-to-heart they told Amy they were proud of her after her recent ordeal with Aaron Sandford.

But some viewers were distracted by Steve's different look as they clocked that he was wearing a baseball cap. One soap watcher @Dee_Cee95x asked on Twitter: "How different does Steve look in that hat?" And @mikepriestley13 remarked jokingly about the popular character: "Steve wearing a baseball cap he’s a Poundland version of Eminem in that cap."

@soaps_extra asked: "Why is Steve wearing a hat?" and @Felstedboy also wondered: "#Corrie Why has Steve got a hat on indoors?" Another fan @conormckenna101 remarked about the cosy family scene: "The fact that Tracey and Steve for years were such a toxic pairing and then ended up being one of the strongest couples on the street."

Simon, 48, has played Street Cars boss Steve since 1989, arriving on the famous cobbles with his mum Liz, dad Jim and twin brother Andy. Throughout his career, Simon has received 17 awards for comedy and performance, plus a Legends of Industry Award. He has been married to Emma Gleave since 2010, and the couple have three sons together.

Fans were wondering about his different look (ITV)

In 2021 he won hearts when he went into the castle on I'm A Celebrity 2021, set in Gwrych Castle in Abergele, alongside fellow soap star EastEnders icon Adam Woodyatt who played Ian Beale.

Simon came in second place on the ITV reality contest. The series was won by former Emmerdale actor Danny Miller with The Saturdays singer Frankie Bridge in third place.
