'It is time for us to move on': Beloved jewellers closing after two decades on Bury high street

A popular jewellers which has been a staple of Bury for more than two decades has announced it will be closing. Peter Jackson the Jeweller first opened at The Rock shopping centre in 2010 and has become ‘firmly established’ in the area.

Bosses have now announced that its Bury branch, alongside a second store in Carlisle, will shut up shop for good later this year. The jewellers' two remaining shops in Preston and Blackburn will continue to operate.

The Preston-founded retailer opened its first shop in 1982. It has been a part of Bury town centre since the area was massively overhauled with the Rock regeneration scheme.

In a statement, Managing Director Peter Jackson MBE said: “We have been a part of so many special occasions - engagements, weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, graduations and many more. Each unique to the people involved and a joy and a privilege to be included in.

“The company has employed many wonderful, hardworking and dedicated staff, some still with the jeweller, others have moved on to pastures new. And now, with a heavy heart, it is time for us to move on.

“We’ve loved being a part of The Rock and the town of Bury. We will leave behind many treasured memories and wish everyone here a happy, healthy and prosperous future.”

Over the years, the jewellers are said to have valued ‘thousands of precious treasures and repaired many more’. It has also serviced thousands of watches and created hundreds of unique pieces of jewellery.

For the next few months, Peter Jackson the Jeweller will be staging a ‘Grand Closing Down Sale’ offering bargains and offers. Customers are also being encouraged to share any memories they have with Peter directly at pj@peterjackson.co.uk .
