Israeli Defense Forces have recently uncovered a significant tunnel along the border between Gaza and Egypt, capable of accommodating vehicles, officials announced on Sunday. Measuring 10 feet in height, the tunnel was located on the Philadelphi Route during a search operation for tunnel networks used by Hamas militants for arms smuggling.
The IDF has already neutralized numerous similar tunnels in the area and is committed to identifying and dismantling any additional ones that may exist.
Escalating tensions in the Middle East have been exacerbated by almost a year of conflict in Gaza, as well as the recent assassinations of a senior Hezbollah commander in Lebanon and a top Hamas political leader in Iran. Iran and its allies have pointed fingers at Israel, issuing threats of retaliation.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu acknowledged the current state of affairs, describing it as a 'multi-front war' with Iran and its affiliates, asserting Israel's readiness for any potential developments. In light of the situation, the U.S. has advised Israel to consider pursuing a ceasefire to prevent a broader regional conflict.
Furthermore, the Pentagon announced plans to deploy a fighter jet squadron to the Middle East and maintain an aircraft carrier in the region. Meanwhile, the U.S. Embassy in Lebanon has advised its citizens to secure available flight bookings for departure, as several airlines have suspended or canceled services.
