The Destiny 2 servers are down to prepare for the launch of the Episode 2: Revenant, which sees Guardians take on the returned Fanatic. Because the game is down for maintenance, you can’t log in and play Destiny 2, but once it has concluded at the normal weekly reset time, you should be able to download the new update and hop in. Here’s what's going on with the Destiny 2 servers right now and when you’ll be able to play Revenant.
Is Destiny 2 down and how long for?
Yes, Destiny 2 is down for scheduled maintenance prior to the launch of Episode 2: Revenant. Bungie anticipates that the downtime for players should last until 10am PDT with the Destiny 2 weekly reset – that’s 1pm EDT, 6pm BST, and 7pm CEST. Note that during this time, certain game integration features will also be down, so you might not be able to use third-party apps or even the Destiny 2 mobile app.
DESTINY 2 MAINTENANCE ❖ Update 8.1.0 Maintenance has begun. REMAINING TIMELINE ❖ Downtime begins: 6:45 AM PDT (-7 UTC) ❖ Downtime ends: 10 AM ❖ Background maintenance ends: 12 PM More info: https://t.co/48Mjp1drx7October 8, 2024
After this time, you should be able to install an update and log back into the game, though there are almost always more issues and queues as players rush back into the game and throttle the servers. Additionally, it could even be the case that the downtime is extended, preventing playing from logging in at the right time, or the Destiny 2 could be brough offline later if there are some particularly severe issues. Regardless of what the issues are, be patient and keep an eye on the Bungie Help Twitter account for updates for when you can start your Revenant journey,
If you try to log into the game while it’s down, you’ll notice that you keep getting hit with Destiny 2 error code cat messages. This error code just means that your game version is effectively out of date, though there’s not much you can do about this until the update becomes available at 10am PDT. If you keep getting this error code after 10am PDT, you probably haven’t got the latest version installed, so make sure you check Destiny 2 for updates on your PC or console.
