Steve Coogan is back on Channel 4 with his latest comedy-drama, Chivalry.
This is a different kind of comedy, one that is pulling from some very serious events that will ring true to many.
It is also billed as a romance, showing the ups and downs of a relationship in Hollywood during the #MeToo era.
Now that the first episode has aired (April 21) some fans are questioning just how real the show is.
In the face of Hollywood scandal over the past five years or more, events seem to reflect some stories that hit headlines from 2016 onwards.
Coogan has co-written the show as he draws upon some very realistic situations.
What is Chivalry about?
Chivalry is a new Channel 4 comedy-drama starring Steve Coogan and Sarah Solemani.
It is billed as both an exploration of the #MeToo era in Hollywood and a romance.
Solemani plays Bobby, an indie filmmaker who is trying to salvage Cameron's (played by Steve Coogan) new film.
He has produced a movie that is deemed as problematic, but it isn’t long before the sparks start flying between the pair.
Is Chivalry based on a true story?
The show is not based on a true story, but it does pull from some very real events.
As this is exploring the #MeToo era in the entertainment industry, some of the series will reflect real life.
Channel 4 stated: "Chivalry is a fresh new look on gender politics and romance, and asks the question - 'can one build and sustain a successful, relevant career in Hollywood without sacrificing authenticity?'
"Chivalry grants the audience permission to laugh while asking complex questions that we as a society often find hard to discuss."
Is Chivalry based on a book?
The show is an original piece of work and is not inspired by a pre-existing book.
It was written by Coogan and Solemani, who are also co-creators of the series.
Both have written projects in the past, with Coogan’s best known work being Alan Partridge, while Solemani penned the BBC ’s Ridley Road from 2021.
Who stars in Chivalry?
Both Coogan and Solemani co-star in the series as lead characters Cameron and Bobby.
They are joined by Wanda Sykes and Sienna Miller.
Sykes recently co-hosted the 2022 Oscars and can be seen in the recent shows Alabama Jackson, The Other Two and Tig N’ Seek.
Miller, on the other hand, stars in the recently released Netflix series Anatomy Of A Scandal and appeared in 21 Bridges, The Loudest Voice and American Woman.
