In a heart-wrenching twist of fate, an Irish Lotto player came tantalizingly close to claiming a life-changing jackpot worth €7,511,276 in Wednesday night's draw.
Their hopes were dashed by a single digit, but they still managed to secure a consolation prize of €42,531 for correctly matching five of the six winning numbers, including the bonus.
Lotto bosses have also revealed that 16 other players will take home €1,594 each after matching five numbers.

The winning numbers for the main draw were 6, 26, 27, 40, 41, 45 and bonus 46.
It was also an unlucky night for the Lotto Plus 1 and Lotto Plus 2 draws as the top prizes of €1,000,000 and €250,000 respectfully both were not won.
Some 23 players of the Lotto Plus 1 draw will get €500 each after matching five numbers.
While a Lotto Plus 2 player scooped a €2,500 prize for matching five of the six numbers, plus the bonus.
The winning numbers for the Lotto Plus 1 draw were 5, 6, 10, 16, 17, 44 and bonus 19.
The winning numbers for the Lotto Plus 2 draw were 25, 31, 36, 38, 41, 46 and bonus 17.
Meanwhile, there were 63 winners of the Raffle Prize, with each receiving €500. The winning raffle number was 9089.
