Ireland weather: Met Eireann confirm cold conditions on the way over the weekend

Ireland is set for a wet and windy weekend as bands of persistent rain move across the country.

Met Eireann has forecast winds to reach gale force on Saturday as temperatures plummet to below freezing.

The west will see the worst weather. However, things will stay relatively mild throughout Friday before the weather takes a turn.

The drop in temperatures will lead to some potential hazards such as ice and fog with Met Eireann also giving a chance of snow on the way.

A spokesperson said: "Although the dominant airflow appears to be from a mild southwesterly direction during the period, the positioning of the centre of the high to the southwest of Ireland in the near Atlantic will also favour a cold northwesterly airflow at times, which could bring brief periods of colder temperatures

"Potential hazards include fog, and occasionally frosty and icy conditions with the chance of wintry showers, chiefly in the north and northwest."

Here’s a more detailed look at Met Eireann’s weekend forecast.
