Ireland’s Dail backs nomination of Leo Varadkar as taoiseach

Irish parliamentarians have backed the nomination of Leo Varadkar as the country’s new premier.

TDs in the Dail voted 87 to 62 to support the appointment of Fine Gael leader Mr Varadkar, who replaces Fianna Fail leader Micheal Martin as taoiseach.
