I'm A Celebrity... South Africa viewers were treated to the arrival of new contestant Gillian McKeith on Monday night's instalment.
Gillian joined the first nine contestants Carol Vorderman, Shaun Ryder, Helen Flanagan, Janice Dickinson, Amir Khan, Jordan Banjo, Fatima Whitbread, Paul Burrell, and Phil Tufnell in South Africa’s Kruger National Park. The Scots nutritionist got a warm welcome from everyone in camp, but music legend Shaun might not be too happy to see her again.
Both Shaun and Gillian took part in the 2010 series of I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! and the pair had a very explosive relationship during their time in camp. Speaking in the bush telegraph on Monday, Shaun said: “Gillian arrived in a box, she should have stayed in a box folks.”
Let's have look back at their infamous 2010 feud after Gillian joined Shaun in South Africa..
Shaun and Gillian butted heads throughout their entire stint on the series, which lead to the Happy Mondays star telling Ant and Dec: “If Gillian was my wife, she would be in pieces in a plastic bag, deep in a hole in the back garden.”
One of the more tense moments in 2010 came when the duo was forced to stand in freezing cold water, as Shaun branded the Scot “a f***ing irritating woman”, to which she replied: “You say nasty things all the time... your tone, everything. The way you speak to everyone.”
Another argument came when Gillian asked Shaun not to smoke in front of her. The singer responded: “You f***ing what? I’ll smoke where I want, you can go in the f***ing toilet. I smoke where I want, don’t tell me where I can’t smoke."
When she asked him not to swear in front of her, he quipped: “I’ll f***ing swear when I want to swear so f*** off.”
After Shaun apologised for the incident, Gillian later described the pair as having a “love-hate relationship”, adding that she was often “frightened” of him. While Shaun was far less kind about the nutritionist, he branded her as “a bit of a d***” who “just had no manners”.
A source told The Sun about TV bosses reuniting the pair: "Having Shaun and Gillian sharing the claustrophobic space in camp again is likely to spark another fallout which could be even more spectacular than their previous encounter.
"It means weeks of discomfort for them, but compulsive viewing for fans of the show who love to see some serious tension."
Last night, after Gillian's arrival, viewers and this year's crop of contestants got a taste of the old tensions between the stars.
Speaking in the Bush Telegraph after her shock drop into the jungle where she surprised everyone by jumping out of a box, Shaun said: “Gillian came out of a box. I was very surprised. I probably could have done without it being Gillian, yeah.”
While Gillian said: “How do I feel about Shaun Ryder being here? I said hello, he said hello, it was all very cordial. What can I say?”
During their time in camp, the pair clashed on multiple occasions.
In tonight's episode, we'll see Paul asks Shaun about his last experience of being in camp with the Scot: “Is she as mad as a box of frogs?”
Shaun replies: “Yeah… I nearly killed her.”
It's set to be an interesting couple of weeks for all involved....
