Indore: 40 stations to reserve fuel for vehicles engaged in polls

INDORE: Local administration, amid alleged irregular supply of fuel, has decided to approach around 40 pumps across Indore district asking them to reserve at least 6000 litres of petrol/diesel for vehicles engaged in ongoing three-tier panchayat and civic body polls.

The election office, as its part of preparations for the panchayat polls, has approached transport officials to acquire around 2800 buses, mini-buses and cars for transportation of polling parties and officials concerned in the division, while about 350 such vehicles in Indore district. Demand for the civic body polls was yet to be generated.

The administration will order fuel stations to reserve at least 2000 litres of petrol and 4000 litres of diesel till the elections are over. The election commission will later make payment against fuel purchased from them during the elections.

However, the decision is a matter of concern for petrol pump owners due to ‘irregular supply’. Indore petrol pump owners’ association president Rajindar Singh Vasu said that supply of petrol and diesel to local pumps was not regular for the past a few days and they had already informed about the issue to the senior administrative officials. “At present, fuel supply to pumps is a bit irregular. Orders being placed in morning are being fulfilled by evening,” Vasu said.

The situation has emerged when the three-tier panchayat and civic body polls are underway, while demand for fuel in rural areas has also increased around three times due to ongoing sowing in Rabi season.
