Murali Avala, an Indian man, reached out to the community in the US from his hospital bed after his family met a tragedy while they were traveling to White Sands National Park, New Mexico. A pickup truck ran over her brother, Purna Gopi Avala, an NRI living in the US for a decade. Murali and their parents were all grievously injured while Purna could not be saved.
The accident took place when their vehicle was parked in the emergency lane with hazard lights on as the two brothers were changing seats to switch drivers. The pickup truck crashed into the vehicle, killing Purna.
