The India Today Group launched a new vertical of their Hindi news channel Aaj Tak on Wednesday. The vertical, which will be called Aaj Tak 2, will be spearheaded by the channel’s senior executive editor and anchor Anjana Om Kashyap.
In an email sent to employees, the group’s managing director Kalli Purie said Aaj Tak 2 “will unshackle AT1 from the boundaries of a linear medium”. “It gives us the chance to bring the Aaj Tak brand of journalistic rigour to more than one news story simultaneously,” the email said.
Aaj Tak 2 will be available on aajtak.in and Aaj Tak’s digital platforms. In the email, Purie said the “non-linear opportunities of digital give us the chance to create a parallel channel of news more appropriate for a younger audience”.
Kashyap will head Aaj Tak 2 in addition to her current responsibilities, according to the email. Purie wrote, “I hope that her experience, enthusiasm and nose for news will help us create another unmissable channel.”
Notably, the launch of Aaj Tak 2 comes shortly after former Zee News editor in chief and CEO Sudhir Chaudhary joined Aaj Tak following his resignation last month.
