Independence Day 2026: PM Modi calls for ‘vibrant civil defence’ network to tackle modern challenges

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday called for a stronger network of civil defence volunteers, saying India must be prepared to deal with challenges both within the country and across its borders.

Addressing the nation from the Red Fort on India’s 80th Independence Day, Modi said India needed to build a voluntary force that could respond to modern security and other challenges.
