In 1957, two Minnesota brothers built a tiny loader to clean a turkey barn; their unusual 3-wheel machine led to Bobcat, which later sold more than 1 million loaders

There were two guys in a blacksmith shop in rural Minnesota who found a genuinely absurd problem to solve: cleaning turkey manure out of a two-story barn. They did it with nothing more than a welding torch and a favor for a farmer named Eddie Velo, who was sick of his tractor loader getting stuck between the barn's support poles. According to the National Inventors Hall of Fame, brothers Cyril and Louis Keller ran a small machinist shop in Rothsay, Minnesota, in the 1950s, fixing up farm equipment from their neighbors, and when Velo arrived at their door needing a loader light enough to be hoisted to the barn’s second floor and small enough to maneuver its posts, the Kellers didn’t outsource the challenge to a bigger company; they built the solution themselves.

A three-wheeled problem with a very unglamorous solution
