Impeachment inquiry heats up as Hunter Biden faces potential prosecution

Biden's spokesperson admitted he knew about Hunter's press conference.

In a recent discussion surrounding the ongoing investigation into Hunter Biden's business dealings, experts weighed in on the potential ramifications for President Joe Biden and his son when it comes to defying congressional subpoenas. Former senior advisor for the Senate Judiciary Committee, Garrett Ventry, and former House Judiciary Committee chief counsel, Julian Epstein, offered their insights on the matter.

Ventry highlighted the significance of a letter written by Republican Representative James Comer and Representative Jim Jordan, stressing that it is crucial amid the impeachment inquiry investigation that just passed the House. He emphasized that the investigation grants the House exceptional powers to cut through executive privilege. Ventry pointed out that President Biden's own spokesperson acknowledged his partial knowledge of Hunter Biden's press conference, where he defied two congressional subpoenas – a move that could potentially result in criminal charges. He further noted President Biden's previous statement in 2007, advocating for the compliance of those who are subpoenaed.

Ventry reiterated the claims that House Republicans have uncovered documents and evidence suggesting potential compromise and a culture of corruption surrounding President Biden. He argued that President Biden has lied about his knowledge and involvement in Hunter Biden's business dealings, highlighting the numerous email correspondences and allegations of his presence during lucrative dinners. Ventry claimed that millions of dollars were acquired by Hunter Biden's family from Russia, Ukraine, and China, with President Biden allegedly being the 'brand' being sold.

Epstein, on the other hand, criticized the White House's handling of the situation, noting their initial denial of any contact between President Biden and Hunter's business associates. He argued that the facts keep changing and that they should have been forthcoming from the start. Epstein cautioned against using the impeachment word too hastily, referencing previous impeachment cases and the boomerang effect of prematurely presenting insufficient evidence. He also expressed disappointment in the Democratic stance on further investigation, particularly the notion that Hunter Biden can ignore a legitimate congressional subpoena.

Both experts agreed that the Biden Justice Department is likely to prosecute Hunter Biden if the matter is referred to them. Epstein pointed out that the Justice Department has already prosecuted Trump staff members, Steve Bannon and Peter Navarro, for defying congressional subpoenas. He questioned how the Justice Department could argue against prosecuting the President's son when they have pursued charges against Trump associates.

As the investigation into Hunter Biden's dealings continues, the discussions between experts shed light on the complex legal and political implications for President Biden and his administration. The ultimate outcome of the investigation and the potential consequences for the Biden family remain uncertain.
