Ikea shoppers praise spare parts scheme for saving droopy drawers

Ikea shoppers were delighted to learn that the flatpack giant will send out replacement parts for your furniture for free. Many reported that they have been suffering from drooping Hemnes and Malm drawers that have been packed full for a long time.

However, instead of having to replace the whole unit or even the drawers, shoppers on one Facebook group were very pleased to learn that Ikea will send out metal supports for free. The short metal supports fix to the underside of the drawer in the middle, helping to support the load above.

Lots of customers reported that they weren’t included in the box when they first bought their drawers but have become vital the longer they keep the furniture. However, now they can be sent straight to your door for free.

The Ikea spare parts site will also send out screws and dowels. This is ideal for those who like to upcycle their old pieces or if a part has gone missing during a move or reassemble.

All you need to do is visit the spare parts website and search by the part number. This is usually a five or six-digit number and you can find it next to the illustration of the part in your furniture’s instruction manual.

Many customers have revealed how this has saved their units and their bank balances, as they no longer need to replace the drawers. One said: “I was about to buy new sets of drawers as mine Malm drawers are starting to bow but now I don’t need to”.

Another said: “This is amazing! Just ordered some replacements for mine. I was going to buy a brand new set of drawers so thanks for saving me some money!”

It is also possible to get replacement wall supports to fix your furniture in place. This helps to support heavy furniture and prevent it from falling over.

Many shoppers praised the help offered to them for bigger pieces too by Ikea’s customer services. “We accidentally damaged a side panel of a wardrobe so we reached out to Ikea customer service and they sent a new panel free of charge.”

It is worth noting that if you swipe your Ikea Family Card at the checkout, your items will be covered by the Ikea Family damage insurance. With this, your products are insured for 90 days against accidental damage on the way home and during assembly.

So if you accidentally drop that new chest of drawers on your way from the car to the bedroom and damage a panel, then simply take the damaged piece back to the store along with your proof of purchase and Ikea family card and staff will do their best to replace it with a like-for-like item or issued with a refund.
