“If BJP Wins 10 Seats, I’ll Quit Politics”: Arvind Kejriwal Throws Open Challenge to PM

Addressing a press conference after the court’s decision, Kejriwal said, “I challenge PM Modi to hold fresh polls in Delhi. If the BJP wins over 10 seats, I will quit politics.” He further demanded an apology from the Prime Minister and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, claiming the case against him had been exposed as baseless.

“PM Modi and Amit Shah should apologise to the country. The court dubbed the case as totally fake and unfit for trial,” Kejriwal asserted. Alleging political vendetta, he added, “PM Modi and Amit Shah hatched a conspiracy against us. We are ‘kattar imandaar’ (staunchly honest).”

Calling the court’s decision “historic,” the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader thanked supporters who stood by him during the legal battle. “A historic verdict has been given today. I thank everyone who supported us,” he said.

Kejriwal also used the occasion to criticise the BJP over governance issues in Delhi, blaming the party for the city’s ongoing pollution crisis and civic problems. “The BJP has thrown Delhi into chaos with problems like pollution, the polluted Yamuna, and damaged roads,” he alleged.

The remarks came after a Delhi court discharged Kejriwal, former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, and 21 others in the excise policy case. Special Judge Jitendra Singh declined to take cognisance of the CBI’s chargesheet, observing that the agency had failed to establish any overarching conspiracy or criminal intent behind the formulation of the policy.

In his order, the judge noted that the Central Bureau of Investigation’s case did not withstand judicial scrutiny and appeared to rely more on conjecture than on concrete evidence. The court’s decision marks a significant development in a case that had triggered intense political debate and confrontation between the AAP-led Delhi government and the BJP at the Centre.
