Idris Elba will return to his iconic role as Luther in a new film set to be released on Netflix and the BBC.
Fans of the show were left disappointed when Luther was not renewed for a sixth season, after season five aired in January 2019. However, our favourite grizzled detective will return to our screens in the form of a new film written by series creator Neil Cross.
With Netflix releasing the title, plot, and some images from the film, as well as a release date, here's everything we know so far.

What is the new Luther film called?
The title of the film is Luther: The Fallen Sun.
What is Luther: The Fallen Sun about?
The film will start with Luther in prison, still still haunted by his failure to capture the cyber psychopath. He decides to break out of prison to finish the job.
The rest of the plot is unknown, but we have been able to pick up some hints from the images Netflix have released from the film. One shows Luther in a very different background from usual, with him standing in front of some snowy mountains instead of the streets of London.
Who is in Luther: The Fallen Sun?
Idris Elba is of course returning to play the title character, and Dermot Crowley will also be returning as Martin Schenk. Cynthia Erivo and Andy Serkis also star in the film.
