The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported that they targeted a “Hamas war room” located within a school operated by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) in the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza on Tuesday. The IDF alleged that the room was being utilized by Hamas commanders and claimed that over 10 Hamas members were killed in the attack. However, these claims have not been independently verified.
A UNRWA official stated that the agency is unable to confirm the assertions made by the Israeli military. The official emphasized the importance of investigating any reports of violations of UN premises and reiterated that UN installations must be safeguarded and should never be used for military purposes.
Al Awda hospital in Gaza reported receiving 11 bodies from the strike on the UNRWA school. The IDF, citing intelligence sources, stated that the strike was a precise operation targeting Hamas war room commanders embedded within the school premises. The military asserted that the war room was being used by Hamas operatives to plan attacks against IDF troops in central Gaza.
Additionally, the IDF confirmed another strike on a separate location in Nuseirat, claiming it targeted 'terrorist infrastructure.' Al Aqsa hospital in Gaza disclosed that they received the bodies of 36 individuals, including 18 children, from this particular strike. Rescue workers are actively engaged in efforts to locate bodies buried under the debris of a four-story building that was destroyed in the attack. Witnesses mentioned that numerous individuals had sought shelter in the building’s yard.
According to witnesses, the strike on the UNRWA school occurred approximately two hours after the attack on the four-story building. The situation in Gaza remains tense as the aftermath of these strikes unfolds.
