'Iconic' historic building in Perthshire dating back to 13th century up for sale

A FORMER school in Perthshire described as a “unique investment prospect” has been put up for sale.

Kilgraston House, located within “beautifully landscaped” grounds, dates back to the 13th century.

It was originally designed by Francis Grant and later extended by Sir Robert Rowand Anderson.

Savills, the property agent handling the sale on the instructions of the Trustee in Bankruptcy, declared it offers “significant potential for redevelopment” and that it “provides an excellent opportunity for investors and developers seeking a project with both historical significance and commercial potential”.

Kilgraston House is a Category A listed building, with the entrance archway, gate lodge and former stables building listed as Category B.

The site had been purchased by the Society of the Sacred Heart in 1930 and opened as a school.

It features several modern extensions that provide teaching space, dormitory rooms as well as other school facilities.

Although it is suitable for continued educational use, the property agent said it could be adapted for residential, tourism or leisure uses.

Danielle Corker of Savills said: “Kilgraston represents a rare opportunity to acquire a site of historical significance with redevelopment potential.

“This blend of historical architecture and modern facilities offers a unique investment prospect, and we look forward to presenting it to the market and exploring how this iconic property might be transformed for future use.”

The property spans a total of 55.45 acres and more than 150,000 square feet of buildings as well as a chapel and theatre space, a 25-metre indoor swimming pool, large gymnasium, equestrian centre, outdoor tennis courts, hockey and sport pitches and three residential properties.
