A new four-star hotel in Glasgow has opened on the site of an "iconic" Grade-A listed building that has stood on the banks of the River Clyde for more than 180 years.
The Clayton Hotel Glasgow City has "breathed new life" into the historic Custom House building on Clyde Street. Featuring "stylish" interiors that celebrate period architecture, the refurbished listed building serves as the hotel's entrance. It features a reception area, a public space, and a ballroom, as well as event spaces.
Connected to the historic building via a glazed ceiling, the new "ultra-modern" hotel includes the Custom House Bar & Restaurant. The hotel stands 16 storeys high, and offers a "striking juxtaposition" of the old and new.

The hotel is located a short walk away from Buchanan Street, and offers "easy access" to rest of Glasgow's 'Style Mile' areas. It is also near the OVO Hydro and Scottish Event Campus.
The Clayton Hotel Glasgow City features 303 "spacious" bedrooms that offer either cityscape or river views. It also includes a terrace on the seventh floor with panoramic views across the city.
Meanwhile, the Custom House Bar & Restaurant will serve up an "enticing menu" of local produce and "sophisticated" drinks.
According to Clayton Hotel Glasgow City General Manager Hazel Galloway, the new hotel offers a "warm Scottish welcome along with the superior service and excellent levels of comfort that Clayton Hotels are known for".
She stated: “We are so thrilled to bring the first Clayton Hotel to Scotland and we are looking forward to adding to Glasgow’s world-class hospitality offering as we prepare to welcome guests from around the globe.
“On arrival, guests will be struck by the grandeur of the building with its historic architecture and striking interiors before moving through to the contemporary heart of the hotel. This is a building which seamlessly combines classic design with modern luxuries.
“We are very lucky to have Glasgow’s main shopping area close by, while we are just a short stroll from Glasgow Central Station, the Ovo Hydro arena and the Science Centre. We truly are in a prime location for our leisure guests and business travellers.”
