Ian Wright in agreement with Rio Ferdinand as he "can't trust" Liverpool

Ian Wright has agreed with Rio Ferdinand that Liverpool will likely miss out on a Premier League top four spot and claimed “you can’t trust” Jurgen Klopp’s side.

The Reds lost 1-0 at Bournemouth – who had started the day at the foot of the Premier League – on Saturday, just six days after they'd smashed Manchester United 7-0 at Anfield. It continued a hugely erratic campaign, which has also league defeats against Leeds, Nottingham Forest, Wolves, Brighton and Brentford.

Klopp’s side remain in the thick of the race for a top four spot but are currently languishing in sixth in the standings – six points off fourth-placed Tottenham, who have played one game more. Earlier this week, Ferdinand predicted that they would miss out on a top four spot and Champions League football for next season.

They are also two points behind Newcastle, who have a game in hand over the Reds, while Brighton may also be considered outsiders in the race. The Seagulls are three points off Klopp’s side, but have played two games fewer.

Wright believes Antonio Conte’s side will secure a top four finish, telling Premier League productions: "I think Tottenham are going to be okay simply because they have got Harry Kane. He’s going to score goals.

"You look at Newcastle. They are missing chances. Yes, they scored a couple and it was good for them, but they will have to do that with their two games in hand. They have to score goals. I can’t see Tottenham not scoring goals."

Former Arsenal striker Wright then went on to criticise the Reds, claiming: "You can’t trust them. You can’t trust Liverpool. At the moment, whoever I am, playing against Liverpool, then I would have a go.

"What it comes down to is that you have Harry Kane. For as long you have Harry Kane and you can create chances, then he is probably going to score them. This is why I will fancy Tottenham to make the top four, regardless of how they play."

Wright is not the only high-profile pundit who has come out to cast doubt upon Liverpool’s hopes of a top four finish. Ferdinand criticised their mentality for battering Manchester United only to come up short against the Cherries the following week.

Ferdinand said on his YouTube channel : "That is a small club mentality. That screams small club. Screaming and shouting when they beat United, yes they battered us, hands up." Ferdinand also claimed that Liverpool would not finish in the top four, thus missing out on the Champions League next season.
