I tried the Costa Valentine’s drink and it wasn’t love at first sip

Costa has launched its limited edition Valentine’s Drink ‘Cupid’s Cooler’ and many Costa fans are delighted.

Available for two weeks only from Thursday February 3, the Insta-worthy drink includes Belgian chocolate, raspberry, whipped cream and strawberry sprinkles.

Costa fans are bound to get a sugar rush after tasting the drink, with chocolate sauce drizzled over the top and a lot of cream.

We decided to put the new Costa ‘Cupid’s Cooler’ to the test to really see if it would get pulses racing.

The look

The Cupid’s Cooler looks okay, although it’s definitely slightly duller in appearance than I’d have imagined.

In my mind I pictured a bright pink colour from the raspberries with a rich chocolate brown but it was more like a dark brown and nothing else.

Once looking around the cup, there were some brighter elements, but it was the cream and sprinkles that definitely made it.

The strawberry sprinkles gave the drink a pretty appearance and combined with the chocolate sauce it looked more appetising than the mud brown colour.

Aesthetics aside, I understand that this new Valentine’s drink is a ‘cooler’ but it made my hands absolutely freezing!

The taste

I really had high hopes for the Cupid’s Cooler, considering that chocolate and raspberries are two of my favourite things.

The first sip had me underwhelmed, to put it bluntly.

It was very bitter, suggesting the Belgian chocolate was a dark chocolate, and had a very overpowering sour raspberry taste.

Once I’d given it a quick stir to mix the cream and chocolate sauce, it was definitely a lot better, but still not what I thought.

The main tastes I got were sourness, bitterness, and a tiny bit of cream.

It was sort of like eating a very faint chocolate ice cream with some raspberry sauce, which doesn’t sound particularly appetising I know.

Perhaps being the chocolate fiend that I am, it would’ve been better with more chocolate sauce, but who knows?

The verdict

I personally think Costa would’ve done better with a warm drink for Valentine's, as it was a bit of a struggle to have this on a chilly February.

The taste was okay, but I’ve definitely had nicer drinks.

I’ve never really been a big fan of Frostinos from Costa, so perhaps I’m biased, but for me the flavour of this cooler was just... average.

For those who really like bitter chocolate or sour fruit, you’ll probably enjoy this, but it definitely wasn’t love at first sip in my case.
