'I make an extra £200 a month just by watching Netflix and you can too'

As the cost of living crisis continues to tighten people's wallets, many will be looking for ways to make some extra cash.

Fortunately, one woman's Netflix side hustle could be the answer you're looking for. Rachel claims she earns roughly £200 a month as a 'Netflix Tagger' and many other on social media have described it as their 'dream job'.

According to TollFreeForwarding.com, a Netflix Tagger is someone who watches TV shows and movies on the streaming platform and then appropriately tags them by genre and other descriptors. This in turn makes it easier for users to find the content they want.

Rachel, a digital marketer from Leeds who discovered the role whilst scrolling through TikTok six months ago, said she was intrigued by the role as money was tight at the time. The 28-year-old told the Mirror: "I was like 'getting paid to watch Netflix? I'm in!”

She added: "When I looked at how to actually do it you have to generally wait for vacancies on the Netflix website. I kept regularly looking at their careers page for a few weeks until I applied.

“I'm sure there are tonnes of applicants, but they must have liked my application and background in content writing and digital marketing.”

After applying for the role, Rachel had to undergo a video interview and perform a few writing tasks. After a few trial runs, she was offered the cosy job. She explained that most of her work isn't actually focused on tagging genres to shows, instead, it mainly includes writing the synopsis of shows and movies that will be released.

Rachel said: “For me, cause I've been writing content for a few years in my main job, it's easy, but it isn't for everyone. You need to know how to write succinctly. I guess the best part is it's unusual and cool, but also really hard to get usually, so it's not something you can generally have a go at.

However, the job doesn't come without its downsides. Rachel noted that she doesn't feel the job fits into a "long term" plan because it's "incredibly competitive" and sometimes there is "not too much to do".

She added: "I would like to pick up more freelance work but it's just finding the clients and opportunities! It would be cool to write for TV or film publications though as a side hustle in the future.”

Anyone looking into doing the job should keep in mind that there may be tax implications from doing a side hustle. Due to trading allowance laws, you have to declare anything over £1,000 in additional income.
