‘I’m coming to Sesame Street to kick a**’: The Rock weighs in on Elmo and Rocco feud

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has weighed in on perhaps the most ridiculous feud of the 21st century so far.

The former wrestler muscled in on an ongoing spat between Sesame Street’s Elmo and Zoe’s pet rock Rocco.

The long-running rivalry has had chins wagging over the past week after a 2004 clip showing Elmo have a meltdown over an oatmeal raisin cookie that Zoe was saving for Rocco went viral.

In a tirade against the stone, the iconic puppet ranted: "How is Rocco going to eat that cookie, Zoe? Tell Elmo. Rocco doesn’t even have a mouth. Rocco is just a rock. Rocco is not alive."

Elmo even went so far as to issue a statement on the feud before subtweeting Rocco by asking: “Has anybody ever seen a rock eat a cookie? Elmo is just curious.”

Hilariously, The Rock responded by saying: “Yes, my friend. This Rock devours cookies. All kinds of cookies” along with a devil and cookie emoji.

He continued (and parodying Roddy Piper’s famous quote from the horror classic They Live): “I’ll introduce you to #CheatMeals and it’ll change your life. Tell Cookie Monster to move it over, cuz I’m coming to Sesame Street to kick ass and eat cookies. And I’m almost all outta cookies.”

After his good name was dragged into it, the Cookie Monster was forced to respond.

Tweeting at The Rock, he said: “Me say cookie challenge ACCEPTED!!!”

Twitter is absolutely loving the Elmo vs Rocco vs Cookie Monster vs The Rock beef, with one remarking: “This. This right here is what Twitter and the Internet were invented for.”

People shared jokes and memes following The Rock’s announcement:

Where will the Sesame Street spat take us next?

We reckon supposed simmering tensions between Big Bird and Barkley could be the next feud to take centre-stage…
